About Us
Who We Are
Why we do this
As a remote island doctor in the Philippines, I witnessed both the physical and mental devastation left in the wake of storms, as well as the hope in survivors’ eyes when someone cared for them. When I arrived in Florida just days after Hurricane Ian made landfall, I saw the same scenario repeat itself—survivors with that same look, some unsure where to start, others working tirelessly to suppress their pain and trauma.
This experience shaped our approach to mental health and disaster response. Two principles became clear:
- Crisis intervention training and community resilience building are essential.
- Whether a disaster strikes one mile or ten miles from your home, you are a survivor.
Education is our guiding mission, but in the wake of a disaster, the perspective and expertise of of an outside team can make all the difference. That’s where Psychological Services steps in. We bring critical mental health support, offering a compassionate and objective presence when it’s needed most. We train communities to support themselves, but when widespread assistance is required, our Expeditionary Psych Support teams respond swiftly and effectively. With heartfelt dedication, we affirm, “P.S. We’re here for you.”
